History

The origins of the Julian Maciej Goslar Regional Society of Culture in Kolbuszowa date back to 1956, when a group of local culture and education activists organized the society, which was officially registered on March 15, 1957, as the Julian Maciej Goslar Society for the Protection of Natural and Cultural Monuments. The first president of the society was Kazimierz Skowroński (1907-1974), a historian and doctor of philosophy who was then a history teacher at the Agricultural Technical School in Werynia.

From its inception, the Society’s activities have focused on cultural, informational, and publishing activities. In 1958, on the occasion of the “Days of Education, Books, and Press” celebrations, a one-day publication “Ziemia Kolbuszowska” was printed. In 1961, to commemorate the 300th anniversary of Kolbuszowa’s municipal rights, the first issue of the Bulletin was published. Between 1961 and 1970, 11 issues of this publication were released, documenting the literature related to the history of Kolbuszowa and its surroundings within the boundaries of the former Kolbuszowa County, including Sokołów Małopolski, as well as memories, profiles of notable and distinguished individuals, ethnographic issues, bibliographic compilations, and results of archaeological works conducted in the region.

In 1972, the Fourth Congress of the Society for the Protection of Monuments approved the change of its name. After the death of Kazimierz Skowroński, Maciej Skowroński (1930-2011), the Head of the Museum of Folk Culture in Kolbuszowa, became the President of the Julian Maciej Goslar Regional Society of Culture. The continuation of the Society’s publishing activity was marked by the printing of the first issue of Rocznik Kolbuszowski in 1986. The second issue of the Rocznik followed in 1987. The scientific editor of the first two issues was Prof. Dr. Józef Półćwiartek, while the editor was Halina Dudzińska (1927-2008), a long-time history teacher at the Kolbuszowa High School and Secretary of the Society. In 1991, Andrzej Dominik Jagodziński, the director of the then City and Commune Library in Kolbuszowa, became the Society’s president. In the 1990s, two more issues were published: Rocznik Kolbuszowski No. 3 (1994) and Rocznik Kolbuszowski No. 4 (2000). The first decade of the 21st century saw the printing of further issues: RK 5 (2001), RK 6 (2002), RK 7 (2003), RK 8 (2005), RK 9 (2009). With the preparation and publication of the jubilee issue of Rocznik Kolbuszowski (2010), the publishing work was directed by the Editorial Board and the Scientific Council. The periodical gained publishing continuity. The content of Rocznik covers issues related to the history of the broadly understood region of the Sandomierz Forest in ecclesiastical, religious, and socio-cultural terms. Important sections in the Rocznik include reviews of regional publications, reports on social and cultural events, and biographies of notable individuals who have contributed to the region. The scope of issues and the diversity of the published content, from purely scientific to popularizing, have permanently inscribed Rocznik Kolbuszowski “in the cultural and social landscape of the Kolbuszowa Land and Podkarpacie.”
